Introduction

The Certificate III in Hospitality (SIT30622) is designed for individuals who want to develop job-ready skills for roles in cafés, restaurants, hotels, clubs, and other hospitality venues. This nationally recognised qualification equips students with the knowledge and practical skills to provide quality customer service, prepare and serve beverages, apply food safety practices, and contribute to safe and efficient hospitality operations.
Graduates will be able to work across a variety of front-of-house and service roles, including food and beverage attendant, barista, bar attendant, and gaming attendant.

Who Should Enrol

This qualification is suited to people who:
  • want to begin a career in hospitality,
  • are currently working in the hospitality industry and wish to formalise or expand their skills,
  • are looking to develop practical expertise in customer service, beverage preparation, and food handling, or
  • are seeking a pathway into higher-level hospitality or management qualifications.

Units of Competency

Students must complete 15 units of competency, consisting of 6 core units and 9 elective units.

  • SITHIND006 – Source and use information on the hospitality industry
  • SITHIND008 – Work effectively in hospitality service
  • SITXCCS014 – Provide service to customers
  • SITXCOM007 – Show social and cultural sensitivity
  • SITXHRM007 – Coach others in job skills
  • SITXWHS005 – Participate in safe work practices

Elective Units (delivered by our RTO)

  • SITXFSA005 – Use hygienic practices for food safety
  • SITHFAB021 – Provide responsible service of alcohol
  • SITHGAM022 – Provide responsible gambling services
  • SITHFAB025 – Prepare and serve espresso coffee
  • SITHFAB024 – Prepare and serve non-alcoholic beverages
  • BSBSUS211 – Participate in sustainable work practices
  • SITHFAB027 – Serve food and beverage
  • BSBCMM211 – Apply communication skills
  • SIRXSLS001 – Sell to the retail customer

Course Delivery

This qualification is delivered through a flexible approach to suit different learner needs:
  • Face-to-face training in a classroom setting,
  • Blended delivery using virtual Zoom classrooms combined with in-person support, and/or
  • Online delivery with access to digital resources and trainer support.
All training includes a mixture of theory and practical components, supported by qualified trainers and individual learning assistance where required.
Some qualifications also require a mandatory work placement in an approved workplace. If this applies, the requirement will be discussed with you prior to enrolment by our Student Support Team.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this qualification, students will be able to:
  • Deliver quality customer service in hospitality settings.
  • Apply food safety and safe work practices.
  • Prepare and serve espresso coffee, non-alcoholic drinks, and alcoholic beverages.
  • Provide responsible service of alcohol and gambling in line with NSW licensing requirements.
  • Serve food and beverages to a professional standard.
  • Demonstrate social and cultural sensitivity in customer interactions.
  • Support and coach team members in workplace skills.
  • Contribute to environmentally sustainable work practices.
  • Apply effective communication and sales skills in hospitality environments.

Certification

Students who successfully complete this course will be awarded the SIT30622 Certificate III in Hospitality, a nationally recognised qualification under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
