Certificate III in Individual Support

Introduction

The Certificate III in Individual Support (CHC33021) is designed for people who want to begin a rewarding career in the aged care, disability, or community services sectors. This nationally recognised qualification equips students with the knowledge and skills to provide person-centred support to individuals who may require assistance due to ageing, disability, or other reasons.
Graduates will be able to work in residential aged care facilities, community care organisations, disability support, and home care environments.

Who Should Enrol

This qualification is suited to people who:
  • are looking to start a career in aged care, disability, or community services,
  • want to gain the skills to provide individualised and person-centred support,
  • are currently employed in support roles and want to formalise their skills with a qualification, or
  • plan to continue their study pathway into higher-level community services or nursing qualifications.

Units of Competency

Students must complete 15 units of competency, consisting of 9 core units and 6 elective units.

  • CHCCCS031 – Provide individualised support
  • CHCCCS038 – Facilitate the empowerment of people receiving support
  • CHCCCS040 – Support independence and wellbeing
  • CHCCCS041 – Recognise healthy body systems
  • CHCCOM005 – Communicate and work in health or community services
  • CHCDIV001 – Work with diverse people
  • CHCLEG001 – Work legally and ethically
  • HLTINF006 – Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control
  • HLTWHS002 – Follow safe work practices for direct client care

Elective Units (delivered by our RTO)

  • CHCAGE011 – Provide support to people living with dementia
  • CHCAGE013 – Work effectively in aged care
  • CHCPAL003 – Deliver care services using a palliative approach
  • CHCCCS036 – Support relationships with care and family
  • HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
  • CHCCCS001 – Address the needs of people with chronic disease

Course Delivery

This qualification is delivered through a flexible approach to suit different learner needs:
  • Face-to-face training in a classroom setting,
  • Blended delivery using virtual Zoom classrooms combined with in-person support, and/or
  • Online delivery with access to digital resources and trainer support.
All training includes a mixture of theory and practical components, supported by qualified trainers and individual learning assistance where required.
This qualification also requires a mandatory work placement in an approved care facility or community services organisation to meet industry requirements. The placement requirement will be discussed with you prior to enrolment by our Student Support Team.

On successful completion of this qualification, students will be able to:
  • Provide person-centred and individualised support to clients.
  • Facilitate empowerment and support independence and wellbeing.
  • Recognise healthy body systems and apply infection prevention and control procedures.
  • Work legally, ethically, and inclusively in health and community service settings.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and colleagues.
  • Deliver support in aged care, disability, and community service environments.
  • Respond to clients requiring dementia, palliative, or chronic disease support.
  • Apply first aid in line with workplace and community requirements.

Certification

Students who successfully complete this course will be awarded the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support, a nationally recognised qualification under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
