Testimony: Mishale Sans Gomez

Mishale Sans Gomez from Barcelona Spain

Enthusiastic for learning new skills, she is willing to find out the world and herself in the journey of life.

Mishale has been in Australia for the last 2 years. Her goal before come to Australia was beyond to learn English. She wanted time and space to connect with herself. Answering an important question, what I want? Considering that she is far of her culture, family and friends, which usually frame and influence our conception of what we should do with our life. Mishale decided to start her adventure of self-discovery in Brisbane, Australia.

“The best of travelling is that you can find yourself”

This idea came to her mind after her experience travelling alone when she was 20 years. I did my first travel to Switzerland, Thailand, Tokyo, Los Angeles and Miami. When you travel, you have the perfect opportunity to find yourself, to connect with that person who is always with you.

“My goal here has been to not being what I wanted to be”

Before to come to Australia Mishale worked as a dental assistant, which her profession is, and as a waitress in a casino. She said that It was the best place to save money, because when people win, they are so generous with tips.

About Australia, she feels grateful of this adventure of more than 2 years. With her positive energy, she describes Australia as a country where you can live a lot of experiences that teach you skills and also shape your idea about life. Mishale has had a variety of jobs. She has worked as a waitress, flower seller, dentist assistant and managing her own business.

“Find a job in my field was scary, because I considered that my English wasn’t as good as I would like it at that time, but I’m so happy because they’ve let me to learn a lot.”

Mishale wanted to work in her field in Australia, so she decided to print her resume as a dental assistant. Being persistent she gave away her resume in every dental clinic that she found. Once a doctor contact her and said, “I received your resume in all our practice today, so would you like to come for an interview?” Since then, she has been working as a dental assistant for the las 6 months.

Moreover, to make this experience more enriching. Her adventure soul has driven Mishale to set up her own vegan cake business. This idea came to her mind during the COVID-19 time. With the experience to make cakes for her friends and after a lesson of her class of leadership and management she decided to launch her own virtual shop. “I realized that I could do much more than cakes for my friends, I always had good feed backs of them.” So, her vegan cake bakery, Doughnuts and Cakes has been operating in Instagram for the last year, you can find it as @doughnutsandcakes and make your order.

I’m an enthusiastic person, I move according with my believes. That’s why, when I set up my business was because I felt motivated after a class. At that time, I was vegan, but I stopped some moths ago because I was feeling unwell. So I’ve been return to the traditional diet, thus, I offer vegan and no vegan cakes in my virtual shop.

“Here in Australia, it is me creating my life, making my own decisions”

On her future, she wants to learn new skills and write a story of life different of the one that she wanted at first place. That’s why she visualizes herself working in design and decoration of spaces. That will be her next course.

Her advice for international students is “TRY”, if you want to do it just try, do not be fear of doing it, because every people start from some point.

Life is about try. After being living here for 2 year, living experiences such as, live with people of different cultures, COVID-19 time, set up her own business, work in her profession and start new plans, her biggest learning is that life is for enjoying, so if you have the chance to try something new, just do it and have fun along the experience. “Today is not going to be tomorrow anymore”

Try hard, the only way to get a job of your dreams is working for it. But if you let your fears stopping you, hardly you will get it. Not wait for the perfect moment just try.
