Units of study

Nationally recognised units of competency

This course delivers the following nationally recognised units:

SITHFAB021
Provide responsible service of alcohol (RSA)
SITHGAM022
Provide responsible gambling services (RCG)

Why this course

Both licences, on campus, subsidised. Done properly.

Delivered by NCVE in partnership with Western Sydney University — an established, NSW-approved RTO, not a corners-cut online-only ticket.

🎓

Exclusive to WSU students

Run on your campus, for your cohort — a partnership offer you won’t find on the open market.

💰

Just $165, subsidised

Western Sydney University covers a large part of the cost, so you get both tickets for just $165 — far less than the usual price.

Liquor & Gaming NSW approved

Real assessors and proper competency cards for both RSA and RCG — certificates that survive a licensing audit.

Job-ready fast

Two tickets across two sessions — everything you need to pick up bar and gaming-floor work while you study.

Real trainers, not chatbots

A named trainer who’s worked behind the bar and on the gaming floor guides you through. No AI marking, no endless videos.

Nationally recognised

SITHFAB021 and SITHGAM022 are nationally recognised units delivered by an RTO with 25+ years’ standing.

What you’ll learn

What you’ll learn

Across the two sessions you’ll cover both sides of responsible venue service in NSW.

Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA):

  • NSW liquor laws and your legal responsibilities when serving alcohol
  • Recognising the signs of intoxication and applying RSA strategies
  • Refusing service professionally and minimising alcohol-related harm

Responsible Conduct of Gambling (RCG):

  • NSW gaming laws and your responsibilities in gaming areas
  • Recognising the signs of problem gambling and responding appropriately
  • Self-exclusion, responsible-gambling signage and supporting patrons

By the end you’ll have the confidence and knowledge to work responsibly across both the bar and the gaming floor.

Who it’s for

Who is this course for?

This course is exclusively for current Western Sydney University students who want to get hospitality-employment ready. It’s ideal if you’re looking for casual or part-time work in NSW pubs, clubs and hotels while you study — venues that serve both alcohol and gaming need staff with both tickets, and doing them together on campus is the fastest, best-value way to qualify. Whether you’re picking up your first hospitality job or upskilling for a current role, you’ll be job-ready in just two sessions. Please bring your valid, current NSW photo ID to your first session.

What you need to enrol

#

A USI

A free Unique Student Identifier — required for any nationally recognised course. We can’t issue your certificates without it.

💳

Photo ID

Current driver licence, NSW Photo Card, proof-of-age card or passport (not expired more than 3 months).

A unique email

Your own email address — it becomes your login and can’t be shared with another student.

Assessment is a mix of multiple-choice questions, short written answers and practical tasks across both units — guided by a real trainer the whole way. Learners under 18 need parental consent.

Certificates & cards

Your certificates and NSW competency cards

When you finish and pass, you receive two nationally recognised Statements of Attainment and interim certificates that let you work for 90 days while you obtain your two photo competency cards.

1

Complete RSA & RCG

Finish both units across the two sessions and pass your assessments.

2

Interim certificates

Issued the same day — valid to work for 90 days.

3

Visit Service NSW

Take them plus 100 points of ID; they verify you and take your photo.

4

Receive your cards

Digital cards via the Service NSW app; plastic cards in ~3–4 weeks.

How long do they last in NSW? Each competency card is valid for five years. To renew, you complete the free refresher administered by Liquor & Gaming NSW through Service NSW — a refresher is done via L&GNSW, not through an RTO, and re-sitting a full course won’t extend your card.

What you’ll receive

What you’ll receive

On successful completion you’ll receive two nationally recognised Statements of Attainment — for SITHFAB021 — Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol and SITHGAM022 — Provide Responsible Gambling Services — plus eligibility for both NSW competency cards issued by Liquor & Gaming NSW. For full unit details, visit training.gov.au.

Not a WSU student? You can still get qualified with our standard RSA Course, RCG Course or combined RSA & RCG Course. For a full qualification, explore our Certificate III in Hospitality.

Questions

WSU RSA & RCG — frequently asked questions

Who can enrol in this course?

This subsidised course is exclusively for current Western Sydney University students. You’ll need to be enrolled at WSU to access it.

How much does it cost?

It’s just $165 for eligible Western Sydney University students — heavily subsidised by the University and well below the standard price. That covers both the RSA and RCG units and both NSW competency card fees.

What units will I study?

Two nationally recognised units: SITHFAB021 — Provide responsible service of alcohol (RSA), and SITHGAM022 — Provide responsible gambling services (RCG).

Which campuses is it run at?

It’s delivered face-to-face on campus at WSU Parramatta, Liverpool, Penrith and Campbelltown. Choose your campus and session from the booking options above.

Why do RSA and RCG together?

Most NSW pubs and clubs serve both alcohol and gaming, so staff need both tickets. Doing them together on campus is faster and better value than booking each on its own.

When do I get my certificates?

You receive your nationally recognised Statements of Attainment and interim certificates as you complete each unit. The interim certificates let you work for 90 days while you obtain your photo competency cards.

How do I get my NSW competency cards?

Take your interim certificates and 100 points of ID to a Service NSW centre, where your identity is checked and your photo taken. Digital cards are available via the Service NSW app, and your plastic cards arrive in about 3–4 weeks.

What’s the difference between RSA and RCG?

RSA (SITHFAB021) is required to serve or sell alcohol. RCG (SITHGAM022) is required to work in gaming areas. Many NSW venue roles need both — which is why this combined course is so useful.

Do I need a USI?

Yes — everyone completing nationally recognised courses needs a free Unique Student Identifier. We can’t issue your Statements of Attainment until your USI is verified — get one here.
