CHC33021 requires at least 120 hours of work placement, and we contact facilities on your behalf to secure yours. Placement is subject to the police check and, where applicable, NDIS worker screening required by the host facility. We do this Australia-wide, and for every qualification we deliver that includes a placement — aged care, disability, childcare and hospitality.

Most students who ask this question have already been told by another provider that sourcing a host facility is their job. At NCVE it is not. We contact facilities on your behalf and secure the placement, and we look for options close to where you live.
This applies to every qualification we deliver that carries a placement requirement — aged care, disability, childcare and hospitality — and it applies wherever in Australia you are studying from.
What you do: enrol, complete your police check and — where the host requires it — NDIS worker screening, and turn up. What we do: everything else.
NCVE does. To be specific about what that means, because “placement support” means different things at different colleges.
You do not compile a list of services or venues and work through it.

Yes. NCVE arranges work placement for students anywhere in Australia.
We deliver online nationally, and the placement is arranged local to you — Perth, Darwin, regional Queensland, wherever you are. Being a NSW-based college does not mean you get a NSW placement or no placement.
This is worth checking with any online provider you are comparing. A national online course does not automatically mean national placement support, and some providers will only place students in the state they are registered in.
Face-to-face study is available in NSW at our registered delivery locations: Wollongong (Level 3, 304 Crown Street) and Nowra (57 Kinghorne Street).
The requirement is set by the training package and differs by qualification. NCVE arranges the placement in every case.
At least 120 hours. The requirement in the training package is worded exactly this way:
“To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.”
The phrase that matters is at least. 120 hours is a floor, not a fixed number.
This applies to CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support, which is on NCVE’s scope of registration as deliver and assess through to 13 September 2029. CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support requires 120 hours of work placement, also arranged by NCVE. You can check both on the national register at training.gov.au.
No — and childcare is where this matters most, because the placement is longer.
CHC30125 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care requires at least 160 hours of work placement — a third more than the aged care qualification. Finding a centre willing to host a student for that long is the step most childcare students get stuck on.
NCVE contacts early childhood services on your behalf and secures the placement, the same way we do for aged care. You do not ring around centres.
Childcare placement carries its own screening: a Working with Children Check is required before you can start, in addition to your National Police Check. We tell you what applies in your state and when to start it.
Yes. Hospitality placement is arranged by NCVE, the same as our care qualifications.
Hospitality works differently from aged care and childcare, and it is worth understanding why. The hospitality training package does not set a total placement-hours figure. Instead, the units are assessed across a set number of service periods — real shifts, in a real venue, serving real customers. That is what has to be arranged, and we arrange it.
This applies to SIT20322 Certificate II in Hospitality and SIT30622 Certificate III in Hospitality.
If a provider quotes you a flat number of placement hours for a hospitality qualification, they are describing their own delivery model, not a training package requirement. Ask how many service periods, and ask who organises the venue.
Your postcode, and how far you can reasonably travel — anywhere in Australia.
We contact aged care services, disability services, early childhood centres or hospitality venues in your area, depending on your qualification. You do not make these calls.
A National Police Check; NDIS worker screening where the host requires it; a Working with Children Check for childcare. Some hosts also require immunisation records.
You get the facility, the contact and the schedule.
Most vocational providers require the student to source their own host facility. The wording to watch for on a provider’s page is “placement support”, “placement assistance” or “we’ll help you find a placement”. None of those mean the provider secures the host.
NCVE (RTO 90283) secures the host. If you are comparing providers, ask each one two questions: “Will you contact facilities on my behalf and secure the placement?” — not “do you support placement?” — and “Will you do that where I live?”, because a national online course does not always come with national placement.
And ask for the answers in writing.

But the decision to accept a student belongs to the host facility, not to NCVE, and we cannot guarantee that a placement will be secured. If facilities decline, we will talk you through your options honestly, including whether a different qualification is a better fit.
