Does this course include work placement, and do I have to find it?
It does, and no — NCVE organises it for you. Hospitality placement is measured in service periods rather than a set number of hours, and we arrange a venue on your behalf rather than leaving you to ring around. We do this anywhere in Australia, not just NSW.
I’ve already done some of this — can I get credit?
Yes. Recognition of Prior Learning and Credit Transfer both apply to the Certificate III in Hospitality. If you have relevant experience, or you have already completed matching units somewhere else, we assess it — and your fee is worked out on what you still need to complete, so it can come down. Can I pay it off, or do I need it all up front?
You pay as you go. $650 to start, which includes your first unit, then $110 per unit as you work through — $2,190 for the whole qualification, or $1,752 if you pay up front. Afterpay and ZipPay are available, and there is no contract: you only pay for the units you actually do. If you are eligible for Smart & Skilled in NSW you may pay considerably less — the calculator above works out your figure.
What units will I study?
15 nationally recognised units — 6 core (industry knowledge, working effectively in hospitality, customer service, social & cultural sensitivity, coaching others, and safe work practices) plus 9 electives including RSA (SITHFAB021), RCG (SITHGAM022), espresso coffee, food & beverage service, food safety and more. Does it include RSA and RCG?
Yes — RSA and RCG are built into the qualification. NCVE is approved by Liquor & Gaming NSW, so you’ll get interim certificates and eligibility for your NSW competency cards via Service NSW.
Can I do it as a traineeship?
Yes — Cert III in Hospitality can be completed as a traineeship, where you’re employed in a venue and earn a wage while you train, with the government subsidising the cost.
Do I have to find my own venue for the service sessions?
No. Certificate III in Hospitality requires you to complete service periods in a real venue, and NCVE finds the host venue for you. That’s the part most people get stuck on with hospitality qualifications — cheaper online courses hand you the theory and leave you to talk a pub or café into taking you. If you’re already working in hospitality you can complete your service sessions where you work.
How much does it cost, all up?

Is this better value than doing RSA and RCG separately?
If you only want the cards, no — buy the RSA and RCG short course for $330 and you’re done in two days. This qualification is for people who want the career rather than the cards: it builds RSA, RCG, espresso, food safety and food and beverage service into a full nationally recognised Certificate III, with the competency cards included along the way. Different purchase, different outcome.
Can I do this around shift work?
Yes, and most students do — hospitality runs nights and weekends and we build around that. The theory is online and self-paced, you have up to 12 months from enrolment, and your trainer works around your roster by phone or one-to-one video. Your service sessions are scheduled with the host venue around your availability.
Can I do this course from outside NSW?
You can study the theory online from anywhere in Australia, but two things are NSW-only: Smart & Skilled funding, and the RSA and RCG competency cards, which are issued by Liquor & Gaming NSW through Service NSW and are only valid in NSW. If you’re planning to work in another state, talk to us first — the qualification travels, the cards don’t.
Can I get credit for units I’ve already completed?
Yes, if you hold relevant units from another provider — that’s a credit transfer, and it’s common in hospitality where people already hold RSA, RCG or food safety. Because you pay per unit, credit means you pay less. Send us your statement of attainment when you enrol and we’ll tell you exactly what carries across before you pay for anything.
English is my second language — is that a problem?
No. There’s a short language, literacy and numeracy check when you enrol. It isn’t a test you pass or fail — it tells your trainer what support you need. Hospitality is one of the most multilingual industries in the country and your service sessions are where the language comes fastest.
Do I get a real trainer, or a chatbot?
A named trainer with hospitality experience, for the whole course. You can phone them or book a one-to-one video session — no helpdesk queue, and no AI marking your assessments.
What jobs does this lead to?
Bar attendant, barista, food and beverage attendant, gaming attendant, front of house and function staff, and supervisor roles as you gain experience. SIT30622 is recognised Australia-wide, and holding RSA and RCG alongside it is what gets you onto a roster in NSW.
What do I need to enrol?
A USI — a free Unique Student Identifier, get one here — photo ID such as a driver licence, photo card or passport, and the short LLN check. Your photo ID is also what your RSA and RCG competency cards are issued against, and it lets us verify your Smart & Skilled eligibility. No prior qualifications and no experience required. Face-to-face study runs at Batemans Bay, Nowra, Goulburn, Wollongong, Campbelltown, Mount Druitt and Parramatta.
