RSA (SITHFAB021) is required to sell, serve or supply alcohol in NSW. RCG (SITHGAM022) is required to work in a gaming area, which means anywhere with gaming machines, a TAB or keno. Most pub and club jobs need both. Bar-only, bottle shop, cafe, restaurant and event roles usually only need the RSA. If you’re not sure, ask your employer before you enrol.
Most of the price of a NSW RSA is the government competency card fee, not the training. Of our $145 RSA, $107 goes to Liquor & Gaming NSW for your card. No NSW RSA can cost less than that. A $49 RSA advertised online is usually the national unit sold without NSW approval. Only a Liquor & Gaming NSW Approved Training Provider can issue the interim certificate that gets you a NSW competency card.

Can I do the RSA and RCG fully online in NSW?
The RSA can be done online and self-paced. The RCG can’t be self-paced. It’s a live, trainer-led class, and ours runs on Zoom, so you still do both from home. With NCVE that’s $290 for both.
How much do an RSA and RCG cost online in NSW?
With NCVE the RSA and RCG package is $290, paid once. That covers RSA Online, the live RCG class on Zoom, and both NSW competency card fees, so there’s nothing more to pay at Service NSW. If you only need the RSA, RSA Online on its own is $145.
How do I book the RSA and RCG package?
Pick an RCG Zoom date from the booking table on this page and enrol. You pay $290 once, get access to RSA Online straight away, and you’re booked into the RCG class on the day you chose.
Do I have to finish the RSA before my RCG day?
No. You can start the RSA online as soon as you enrol and do the RCG on your booked Zoom day, in either order. You have four weeks to finish the RSA.
Is an online RSA valid in NSW?
Yes, as long as the provider is a Liquor & Gaming NSW Approved Training Provider. NCVE is approved (RTO 90283). An online RSA gives you the same SITHFAB021 Statement of Attainment and the same NSW competency card as a classroom course.
Is an RCG done on Zoom valid in NSW?
Yes. Our RCG is a live, trainer-led virtual class delivered by an approved provider. It leads to the same SITHGAM022 Statement of Attainment as a face-to-face class.
How long do the RSA and RCG take?
The RSA is about 6 hours of self-paced learning and assessment, with four weeks to finish. The RCG is one live day on Zoom, on the date you book.
How fast will I get my RSA interim certificate?
Usually the same day, if you submit a fully completed assessment before 4pm on a business day. Otherwise, allow up to three business days. The interim certificate is valid for 90 days and lets you start work straight away.
Do I need an RSA, an RCG or both?
You need an RSA to sell, serve or supply alcohol. You need an RCG to work anywhere with gaming machines, a TAB or keno. Most pub and club jobs need both, while bar-only, cafe, restaurant and bottle shop jobs usually only need the RSA.
Do I have to go to Service NSW in person?
Yes. Within 90 days of getting your interim certificate, you must go to a Service NSW centre yourself with the certificate and 100 points of ID. Your digital card appears in the Service NSW app straight away, and the plastic card is posted within about four weeks.
How long is the NSW competency card valid?
Five years. When it’s due, you renew through the free Liquor & Gaming NSW refresher via Service NSW. You don’t need to redo the full course unless your card has expired beyond the grace period.
Is a NSW RSA valid in other states?
SITHFAB021 is nationally recognised, and a NSW RSA is generally accepted in QLD, WA, SA, NT, ACT and TAS. Victoria requires a short bridging course. Gambling and card rules differ by state, so check with the state regulator if you’re moving.
Why is a NSW RSA more than a $49 online RSA?
Because $107 of every NSW RSA goes to Liquor & Gaming NSW for your competency card. A $49 course is usually not NSW-approved and can’t get you a NSW card.
What do I need before I enrol?

Can I enrol if I’m under 18?
Yes, with parental consent. Check with your employer about any age rules for the role you’re applying for.
