What to bring on the day

Bring 100 points of ID or you can’t start

This is the one thing that trips people up. SafeWork NSW won’t let anyone start White Card training without 100 points of ID, so check yours before class. Bring the original documents. Photocopies and photos on your phone don’t count. Any mix of documents from the list below is fine, as long as they add up to 100 points and, between them, show your photo, date of birth, signature and current home address. A current driver licence covers all four.

No 100 points, no White Card that day. If you turn up short, we can’t start your training and you’ll need to book another class. If you’re not sure you’ve got enough, call us on 1800 180 881 before the day and we’ll check it with you.

CPCWHS1001
Prepare to work safely in the construction industry

Why choose NCVE

One day, a real trainer, and you’re site-ready.

We’ve been training people across NSW for more than 25 years. A White Card is a small course, but we run it the same way we run everything else: properly.

✓

Approved to issue NSW cards

Only a SafeWork NSW approved RTO can put you through for a NSW White Card. NCVE is one, RTO 90283.

⚡

Work-ready the same day

Pass on the day and you leave with your Statement of Training. It lets you start on site for 60 days while your card is posted.

👤

A real trainer in the room

No online click-through. SafeWork NSW requires White Card training to be delivered face to face, and our trainers know construction.

👥

Small classes

Never more than 20 people, so you can ask questions and nobody gets lost at the back.

☎

You can phone a person

1800 180 881 reaches our team in NSW, Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm. Not a chatbot, not an interstate call centre.

💰

No surprise fees

The SafeWork NSW card fee is in the price. We lodge your application for you, so there’s nothing else to pay or chase.

What you’ll learn

What you’ll learn on the day

The course gives you the basics every construction worker needs before they go on site. You’ll cover:

  • Your rights and responsibilities under NSW work health and safety laws, and your employer’s too
  • Spotting common construction hazards and how they’re controlled: working at heights, electrical, asbestos, hazardous chemicals, noise, dust, UV, manual handling and moving plant
  • Reading safety signs and following safe work documents such as SWMS and site safety plans
  • Choosing, fitting and looking after personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Reporting hazards and incidents, and what to do in an emergency on site
  • Who to talk to about safety on site and how consultation works

Who it’s for

Do I need a White Card?

If you do construction work in NSW, yes. SafeWork NSW says that includes labourers, tradespeople, apprentices, site managers, supervisors and surveyors, plus anyone who goes into an operational construction zone on their own or whose job regularly takes them onto a site. Plenty of labour-hire, warehouse, cleaning and maintenance jobs ask for one too, so it’s worth having before you apply.

You need to be at least 14 years old. School students doing construction work experience need one as well.

Already got a White Card from another state? You don’t need to redo it. A general construction induction card issued in another Australian state or territory is recognised in NSW, as long as it hasn’t become void.

How it’s delivered

Can I do my White Card online in NSW?

No, not self-paced. SafeWork NSW doesn’t allow online or distance learning for White Card training in NSW, which is why a real trainer runs our class face to face. The day includes at least six hours of training, and assessment happens in the room using SafeWork NSW’s own assessment tools: a written component and a practical, such as showing you can fit PPE correctly.

If you see a cheap “online White Card” advertised, check it’s actually valid for NSW before you pay. Pick a date from the class list on this page.

Before you start

What you need to enrol

💳

100 points of ID, originals

Original documents adding up to 100 points that show your photo, date of birth, signature and current address. No ID, no start. That’s a SafeWork NSW rule. See the full points list above.

#

A USI

A free Unique Student Identifier, needed for any nationally recognised course. It takes about five minutes to get one.

✉

Your own email

We send your enrolment details and Statement of Attainment to it, so it needs to be yours.

✎

Basic English

Enough to read safety signs and answer written questions. If reading or writing is a worry, call us before you book and we’ll talk it through.

Assessment is done on the day using the SafeWork NSW assessment tool: written questions plus a practical task. Your trainer marks it on the spot.
